So after a bit, and with the tide nearly full, we packed up and decided to try our luck again at more fishing. We headed over to the mainland toward Lincolnville Beach and then trolled back up the coast toward Belfast Harbor. There were a few Macks off Northport and a spirited fishing contest soon ensued between Deb and Mike.
Last July along with my wife Pat, my brother in law Mike and sister in law Deb who live in Searsmont, struck out of Belfast Harbor bright and early. It was a beautiful early morning on Penobscot Bay. Flat water, incoming tide, warm air.
We headed over to Islesboro and trolled for mackerel down the eastern shore starting near Turtlehead. Not having much luck and getting very hungry for breakfast , we decided to move on to one of the nearby islands and a breakfast beach picnic.
Soon we were on the sand bar setting up our breakfast site with Deb doing her consummate prepping job.
The menu consited of coffee, cheeses, fruits, bread, Prosciutto, salami, homemade jellies, fruit and a Mimosa toast to the glorious morning.
We lingered for sometime enjoying the companionship, the warm morning, the conversation and the basic joy of being on an island in Penobscot Bay.
It was one of those truly great days on the water. Hard to believe it was over 8 months ago. But we have already started our planning for this coming summer. Hopefully that future morning will be warm and calm . And in the company of family, it will definitely be another great day on the bay.
